When it comes to our homes, we all want to make sure that we are living in a space where we feel comfortable and stress-free. To do this, we need to make sure that we are living in a clean and decluttered environment. This can be challenging, especially when you are trying to run a family. You will probably feel as though you are cleaning 24/7, and the house is still a mess. One of the biggest problems when it comes to feeling messy in your home is that it is too cluttered. We need to make sure that we find homes for everything and that we find a good routine for cleaning so that it doesn’t get on top of us.
This is definitely easier said than done, and I am still finding my way through doing this myself. However, I’ve got a few tips to share with you that could help you get started:
Do One Room At A Time
Rather than trying to declutter every single room in your home at once, you should work on one room at a time. When you try to declutter the entire house, you are more likely to stop and fail at your attempt. Start by looking at one room; for example, you could start with the living room. Have a look at everything that is in there and assess whether you need it or have used it in the last 12 months. If the answer is no, you might want to consider selling or donating the item. For example, you may have too many cushions on the sofa, and this could be something that is making your living room look cluttered and untidy. I know that I have too many throw blankets and need to get rid of some of them.
I’m also very guilty of allowing a few too many children’s toys in the living room at one time. If you want to make sure that the living room is kept clean and enjoyable and that it is clear of clutter, it might be a good idea to make sure that your children and you bring down one toy at a time. The rest of them should be kept in the bedroom, and they can be swapped whenever they want.
Have A Sort It Out Box

If you want to quickly get the feeling of decluttering your home, it’s a good idea to have a sort-it-out box. This is a box that you can grab and pick up anything that is on the floor on the sides that needs to be put back into its rightful place. Sort out just a storage basket that you can walk around your home with and quickly put everything into it. Once you’ve done this, you can start to find a home for everything that you’ve put in the box. You will instantly get the feeling of your home being less cluttered and a little bit more organised. Make sure you don’t fill the box and never open it. This can be counterproductive and will make you feel worse, as you have an overflowing box of stuff that should be put away.
Create A Rule
One of the best things that you can do is to create a rule where, if you touch something, you put it back where it belongs. This means that you are more likely to keep your home clean, tidy, and organised. For example, when you get home from going for a walk, and you take off the coats, put them back on the hooks or in the cupboard where they belong, rather than putting them over the back of the chair. Or if you get the condiments out for dinner, rather than leaving them in the middle of the table, put them back into the fridge or the cupboard. If you start to live by this rule, you will realise how much easier it is to keep your house clutter-free and more manageable.
Purge Your Home
If you want to make sure that your home is more manageable and decluttered as much as possible, then you need to go around your home and purge. Have a look at everything that is in your home and get rid of it if you no longer need it. This is very similar and linked to doing one room at a time; however, once it is done, your whole house will feel less cluttered and more manageable. People have a habit of collecting lots of things, and if you don’t have a place for all of those things, it can be difficult to get your home to be as clutter-free and organised as you want it to be. If you have fewer things, then you are more likely to keep your home organised, tidy, and clutter-free.
You will also find that it is much easier to find things that you need, and your mind will feel less cluttered because you have fewer things in your home. If you ever feel like you want to buy something new, for example, if you want to add a new ornament to your shelf, think about creating a room where you put one thing in your home and take another one out. When you do this, you are minimising your chance of going back to having a cluttered home. When you purge your home, you need to make sure you are as ruthless as possible, especially if you have a lot of clutter at the moment.
Conclusion
These four tips should help you create a less-cluttered and more-organised home. It’s not just going to happen overnight; when it comes to organising and decluttering your home, it is going to take some time. It may even take you a good 12 months to get it where you want it to be. Be patient and do a little bit at a time. You don’t have to do everything all at once, and you don’t have to purge every single room at the same time. Are you looking to declutter your home?
